Givre is a fitted garment that requires a stretchy fabric with a good recovery. You’ll need a jersey knit with at least 50% stretch, and containing elastane (also called spandex or lycra) for the garment to keep its shape over time.
You don’t know how to calculate the stretch percentage of your fabric (not to be confused with the elastane percentage)? Learn how to do so in this blog post!
To guide you in your choice of jersey knit, here’s our selection!
1 – 2 – 3 – 4* – 5 – 6 – 7 – 8 – 9
To make the dress version, our favorite is cotton-spandex jersey: soft, stretchy, and stable enough to be forgiving of bumps and bulges. For the top version you have more leeway: rayon, bamboo, cotton, or even wool! If you are making a color-block Givre, make sure to use the same fabric composition for both body and yoke.
