Available in a maxi or knee length, Coquelicot is a deceptively simple sew, achievable for intermediate sewers or anybody looking to work on a quicker project. The neckline flounce wraps around to the back of the garment, giving this sleeveless design a touch of modesty and providing shoulder coverage. With an unlined princess seamed bodice and invisible side zipper closure, our goal was to streamline the assembly process and help give you a beautiful result with only a few technical skills. And for those who need to do an FBA or SBA—we’ve already got you covered.
Coquelicot is designed for lightweight and supple woven fabrics; think viscose and rayon, tencel, silk, and crepes. There should be enough drape that the flounce sits well and does not pop away from the body! Because the dress is unlined, avoid anything that is too light and sheer, like voile, most swiss dots, and very light viscose and rayon.
In terms of choosing a pattern, you really can’t go wrong. Coquelicot lends itself well to patterns of all sizes and scales, and looks great in solids too. With a relatively simple construction and A-line skirt, it is a great design to show off a special fabric or print you’ve been eyeing or holding on to.
