Inspired by some of our favorite RTW blouses, Camélia is the breezy but oh-so-elegant top you won’t get enough of this summer. Gathers at the shoulder and yoke provide volume and comfort on those warm sunny days, while classic tailored features like the partial front button placket and collar add style and sophistication. Speaking of button placket, this is the first pattern to feature a partial button placket in the Deer&Doe collection. It’s a fun technique to sew that allows this design to be easily pulled over the head, and it can be worn open or closed depending on your personal preference.
With two collar variations (rounded and standard) and an option for a ruffled sleeve, Camélia can accommodate a multitude of different styles, whether it be feminine or masculine, retro or modern, casual or formal. We’ve styled it here tucked into our Genêt shorts and Circée skirt—but this voluminous design will look fantastic with any high-waisted bottom.
Camélia is intended to be a breathable summer blouse, so stick to lightweight fabrics that can accommodate its many gathers. Cottons should be very lightweight (we tried a batiste and it was too heavy), while rayons and silks can be a little heavier but not too much. Our favorite fabrics for Camélia are rayons, swiss dots, and cotton voiles.
This design is rated as an intermediate pattern (3/5) thanks to a few trickier techniques like the collar and partial button placket, but with that said this is a surprisingly quick sew! We’ve found ourselves sewing Camélia in just a single afternoon.
We’re proud to offer the Camélia blouse as a PDF pattern in sizes 34-60. For this week only you can help us celebrate the launch by taking advantage of our sale! Save 15% on both of our new patterns AND anything else you’ve had your eye on in the rest of the Deer&Doe catalogue.
