One of the first decisions we had to make when planning the launch of our new size range was which pattern to release first. The Sirocco jumpsuit is one of our most popular patterns ever, and it felt like the obvious place to start. When we found ourselves with some unexpected time on our hands, we decided to release a second bonus pattern: the Plantain t-shirt! We designed this free t-shirt so everybody could have an inexpensive way to test our patterns before purchase, and it was especially important to us that we could continue to provide this opportunity to all of our customers, regardless of size range.
Sirocco is a knit pattern designed for stable knits with at least 60% stretch, which makes it incredibly comfortable. At the office, on a plane, at parties, throughout the years we’ve put it to the test in every situation, and it always passes with flying colors! The stretch of the mock-wrap bodice allows you to easily put it on or take it off through the neckline: no zipper or annoying buttons to undo.
To balance out the relaxed feel of the knit fabric, we added many office-ready details: the legs are tapered, the bodice and pants are structured by deep pleats, the set-in sleeves create strong shoulders, and a wide band frames the neckline. Slash pockets, reinforced by clear elastic, bring sophistication and practicality to Sirocco.
In its pants version, Sirocco is the perfect transitional piece to take you through every season! For hot summers, the romper variation will be your best friend both in the city and on the beach. Plus it’s such a quick project to sew that you’ll want to make a dozen!
Ever since its release in 2014, Plantain has become a must-have amongst free patterns. It is our take on the “perfect” t-shirt pattern, featuring fitted shoulders and a design that flares out gently at the hips for a loose but elegant effect. It has a low scoop neckline, and includes three sleeve variations: short, ¾ length, and long — with optional elbow patches. It’s ideal for cocooning on cold winter days, wearing on its own during warmer seasons, or layered with other pieces to face the cold outside!

The process of re-releasing Sirocco and Plantain has been such a fun and educational experience for us from start-to-finish. We could not have done it without an abundance of support behind the scenes, and we want to extend our deepest gratitude to everybody who helped along the way. Thank you to: Jess of Broad in the Seams, who consulted with us early on and had a tremendous impact in the overall strategy and direction of this project; Jenny of Cashmerette, who provided us with an early copy of her ebook “How to Expand Sewing Patterns Into Plus Sizes” and has continued to provide advice and guidance along the way; Raphaelle of Ready to Sew, who shared her detailed size charts with us; our amazing (and new!) team of pattern testers; our gorgeous model, the lovely Johanna of @mes_jolis_rates_; our photographer Laurent Moynat; the talented hair and makeup artist Olivier Chauzy; and finally Studio Lucette for providing one of our favorite shoot locations.
If you’ve already purchased a paper copy of Sirocco, you may fill out the proof of purchase form here, and once verified we will provide you with a discount code to buy the PDF version for only 3€. Please note that the printed pattern must still be in your possession and that this offer is not valid for patterns that have been purchased second-hand.
Like every clothing line, Deer&Doe patterns are designed based on one morphology in particular (also known as our “block”). Our patterns are drafted for a C-D cup, a larger waist-to-hip ratio, and an average height of 1m68 (5’6″). That does not mean they will not fit if you have a different body shape! But you may need to make pattern adjustments to get a better fit.
You can take a closer look at our full measurement charts here. The first size range goes from size 34 to size 48 and is developed from a size 40 block. The second size range goes from size 46 to size 60 and is developed from a size 52 block. If your measurements fall in the overlap between the two ranges, we recommend trying both versions of the pattern to determine which size range is a better fit for your body shape.
Keep in mind that the 46 – 60 range is only available in PDF format at this time.
